In the spring of 2001, Don and Yvonne Feitsma together with Dons parents decided to start looking for opportunities to expand their current 80 cow farm in Leduc Alberta. Their search brought them to Saskatchewan. After many visit’s a older farmstead was purchased near Hague Sask. One month later the ground for the new dairy was broken. Still living in Alberta at the time a lot of trips were spent driving back and forth to help supervise the beginning stages of the barn. Finally July 24 2001, Don and Yvonne and their girls made the move to Saskatchewan. At the end of August the first 80 cows a came to Feitsma Dairies.
The cows were milked in a new double 8 parallel parlour 3x a day. The barn is a six row 160 cow freestall barn with natural ventilation. It has automatic scrapers that run 9x a day and keeps the barn alleys clean.
In 2005 plans were underway for an expansion. Another piece was added to the barn with 90 more stalls and a bedding pack for close up and fresh cows. The parlour was also expanded from a double 8 to a double 12.
In 2007, Don and Yvonne took the opportunity to purchase Feitsma Dairies from Dons parents.
In 2010 plans were under way for the next expantion, We added a four row barn with 240 stalls and bought cows and quota, Feb 2011 the cows came. We recently purchased a farm in Laird 30km north of the dairy to raise the young stock.
Don and Yvonne feel that God has blessed them with a great opportunity to farm in Sask for them and their girls. Through this they hope to give back by working hard to keep Feitsma Dairies an up to date, clean and comfortable working environment for everyone to work and visit.
